Effective Control Of Viral Diseases In Papaya Crop.

Papaya crop cultivation have commercial importance as it contains high nutritive and medicinal abilities. Fruits are produced in less than a year and the production is high.  Papaya grows well in both tropical and sub tropical climatic conditions.

Papaya mosaic virus attacks at all stages of the crop growth , but it has serious effects on the younger plants that causes leaf mosaic and stunting. The disease is transmitted by Aphids. After 5 days of Inoculation vein clearing and downward cupping of leaves are observed in the young seedlings. Leaves are reduced in size and contain patches of dark green tissue changing with yellowish green lamina. Leaves Petiole is reduced and assume an upright position. 

Leaf curl disease is transmitted by Vector white-fly (Bemisia tabaci). Symptoms observed are curling, crinkling, rolling of leaf margins and reduction in leaf lamina. Flowers and fruits are not produced by the affected plants. Later defoliation takes place and effects the growth of plant.
