Sustainable Management Of Pod Borer (Helicoverpa Armigera Hubner) In Bengal gram Crop.
Bengal gram or Chickpea is a legume crop rich in proteins. India is one of the major chick pea producing countries in the world. Pod borer [Helicoverpa Armigera Hubner] is a major pest damages plant pods causing severe damage from vegetative stage to pod formation stage. The eggs are spherical in shape and creamy white color. Pupa is brown in color and occurs in soil, pod and leaves.
Adult pest is brownish yellow stout moth containing pale brown fore-wings and pale smoky white hind wings. Initially larvae feed on green leaves and also effects the flower buds and pods. Matured larvae have a peculiar characteristic that enables the larvae to feed on fruit by keeping half body inside and the other half outside. Feeding on the flower buds leads to reduction in fruit setting ,thus causing yield loss.
Nova Swarna have an immense affect on pests like Helicoverpa and Spodoptera for a longer period. It is a natural product containing tree extracted alkaloid useful for crop protection.
